North Carolina Vehicle Registration Changes Effective October 1, 2026

Beginning October 1, 2026, North Carolina transitioned to an all-electronic vehicle registration system. Under the new system, license plate registration stickers are no longer required by state law.

Law enforcement officers can verify vehicle registration status electronically. Eliminating registration stickers is expected to reduce costs and help prevent sticker fraud.
