New Director of Elections Takes Oath of Office
Elizabeth Gettens officially took the oath of office before the Clerk of Superior Court on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, becoming Currituck County’s new Director of Elections.
With the 2026 General Election approaching, the Currituck County Board of Elections is preparing to assist voters throughout the election process. North Carolina voters have several options for casting their ballots, including voting during the state’s in-person early voting period or requesting an absentee ballot.
Early Voting Schedule
In-person early voting for the 2026 General Election will be held Thursday, October 15, through Saturday, October 31, 2026, at the following location:
Currituck County Judicial Building
Courtroom C
2801 Caratoke Highway
Currituck, North Carolina
Early Voting Hours:
- Thursday, October 15 – Friday, October 30: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday, October 31: 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Absentee Ballots
Absentee-by-mail ballots began being mailed on Friday, September 4, 2026, to voters who requested a ballot.
The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the November 2026 General Election is 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Voters may submit an absentee ballot request through the North Carolina State Board of Elections’ online system or obtain a request form from the Currituck County Board of Elections.
Completed absentee ballots must be received by the voter’s county board of elections by 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
